Grandmother’s Flower Garden

Just a hint of what I’ve been doing. This has been a lot of fun. I have always wanted to make a GFG quilt, but never had the patience for English paper piecing. This really works well. The more blocks I make, the more I love it.

My blog is about helping other quilters learn to use great tools in their quilting through what I can teach and through finding other bloggers who have good information. In addition, I am a mother and grandmother. Other hobbies include any other stitchery which makes me happy at the moment. I worked in clinical research for most of my career. I am now retired and enjoying every minute.

  1. That is a great idea. I have a feeling that it is your design. 😉 Are you doing all the outer borders with the same stitch or will some have that long/short —can’t think what to call it — like satin but short and long stitches.

  2. I can’t wait to this see put together. What you already have is just amazing, but the finished product will be stunning. I myself never wanted to try a flower garden quilt because I know I don’t have the patience. I just look at the hand pieced, hand quilted one my grandmother did for me when I graduated from high school.

  3. Whaw its really so beautifull!
The amazing embroidery pattern around the hexagon and the flower design in the middle make it perfect!
Im curious to see the whole project!
    Well done,its beautifull1!
    Much quilt and embroidery fun!

  4. I really love your blocks. The embroidery around the blocks really is nice. I think it will be a beautiful quilt. Thanks so much for sharing. Makes me want to make one. Peggy

  5. I have been working on a GFG quilt–(after having seen,on her blog, the one that Bonnie Hunter was making-).I am not finished with it yet, even tho I have been working on it for almost 2 years. I usually only work on it when we are camping or traveling. Mine is done entirely by English Paper piecing with a needle and thread.I do cut all my little papers using index cards and my accuquilt Go…it works good ..maybe I won’t ruin it!! I really like your blocks and next time will try it—I would really like to finish one before I die!!!!I am going to will mine to a sewing partner to finish if I die anytime soon—-but I don’t feel sick sooo maybe I can finish it.
