Night Flight – Block 3 of the Qube Workout Sampler

The third block of the Sampler is posted to the QAL Sampler Page. I named this block Night Flight and it comes in three versions: one for the Mix & Match Qube, one for the Angles Companion Qube, and one for the Corners Companion Qube. It is called Night Flight because there is some semblance of a star in the center of each block and there are birds in the air and flying geese surrounding the star.

We had 8th grade graduation on Saturday. It was such a bittersweet day. We are so thrilled that our sweet Ezri has made it through 8th grade. It was long and hard work at times but incredibly delightful to hear her sweet laugh when we got those assignments done and when everyone was so proud of her achievements. It was a spaced, masked, walk-through graduation because of the Pandemic and was also the first time she actually met some of her teachers.

Have a wonderful week and do some happy stitching!

My blog is about helping other quilters learn to use great tools in their quilting through what I can teach and through finding other bloggers who have good information. In addition, I am a mother and grandmother. Other hobbies include any other stitchery which makes me happy at the moment. I worked in clinical research for most of my career. I am now retired and enjoying every minute.

    1. Hi Darlene, Can you believe how much they all have grown? Time really flies. We can’t believe Ezri is going to high school. She is doing a summer program at the high school, and we think that’s perfect for getting her oriented and ready to go.

  1. Beautiful picture! I too am a Mother, Nana and and Great Nana that is retired. Thank you for sharing your wonderful family with us.

  2. I am enjoying working on this block when I get home after I leave work. How can I get Blicks 1 & 2?

    1. Hi Ramona, I’m so glad you are enjoying Block 3. Just click on the Qube Workout Sampler QAL link at the top of this page and you will find links to all the blocks.

    1. There are three blocks – one for the Mix & Match Qube alone and one for the M & M plus Angles Companion Qube and one for the M&M plus Corners Companion Qube. The 11.1 and 12.1 are in the Corners Companion Qube. If you don’t have that, you would make the block using the Mix & Match Qube.

  3. I am loving this qube workout. Thank you so much for this fun way to get to use my qube. I am new to your posts but did get in on the beginning of this workout. I am seeing beautiful pictures of the broken dishes quilt, where can I purchase this pattern and is it in 3 versions like your current pattern? I only have the 12 inch qube. I hope to get the companion sets for Christmas so I only want broken dishes pattern if it can be done with mix and match qube only. I look forward to Mondays and the new block. God bless.

    1. Hi Jo Beth, you can click the link at the top of the page for the Machine Embroidery and Quilt Pattern Shop and you will find the Broken Dishes pattern there. It does have blocks that will work for the Mix & Match only for each step of the quilt. There are multiple block options for each step of the quilt and you can change up the block combinations to your heart’s content. I think that is why there are so many pretty quilts and no two quilts are alike. The pattern also has instructions for some workarounds to make blocks from the Angles Companion Qube using the Mix & Match set i.e., lay a smaller square on a larger square and sew across the smaller square from corner to corner to make a trapezoid shape. I much prefer using the actual die, but if your Angles Qube isn’t coming right away and that is the shape you want, the workaround will work. Please post a picture of your quilt when you get it finished.

  4. Thank you. I have ordered the pattern. Is it going to be mailed to me or is it a digital download? I won’t be starting it for awhile but wanted to get the pattern while it is available. I am using the current workout blocks with previous patchwork blocks I had from a BOM group I was in and I think they will all go together really nice. I will post that quilt when finished. Have a blessed evening.
